Project Number 1

Test Objective:

Client #2: Find a suitable replacement for MEK for cleaning wet aircraft paint out of a pressurized air paint sprayer gun
Trial Number Date Run Purpose Success Rating
0 09/14/2023 Determining an effective replacement to Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK) in cleaning wet paint from the inside of a siphoned paint gun Preliminary compatibility tests on substrate coupons encouraging for at least one cleaning chemistry. More in-depth laboratory testing necessary.
1 09/14/2023 Testing the effectiveness of selected solvents on removing wet paint from coupons Results successful using TACT (time, agitation, concentration, and temperature, as well as rinsing and drying) and/or other cleaning chemistries examined.
2 09/15/2023 Determining the effectiveness of selected cleaners for removing aerospace paint from a stainless steel substrate Results successful using TACT (time, agitation, concentration, and temperature, as well as rinsing and drying) and/or other cleaning chemistries examined.
3 10/13/2023 Evaluating efficacy of HSPiP Solvent mixtures on cleaning wet paint from gun interior parts via siphoning. Preliminary compatibility tests on substrate coupons encouraging for at least one cleaning chemistry. More in-depth laboratory testing necessary.
4 02/14/2024 To evaluate the efficacy of previously identified solvents and mixture in removing oil from aluminum panels via manual wipe Results successful using TACT (time, agitation, concentration, and temperature, as well as rinsing and drying) and/or other cleaning chemistries examined.
5 02/14/2024 To evaluate the efficacy of previously identified solvents and mixture in removing sharpie ink from aluminum panels via manual wipe Results successful using TACT (time, agitation, concentration, and temperature, as well as rinsing and drying) and/or other cleaning chemistries examined.

Project Number 2

Test Objective:

Client #1: Find a suitable replacement for TCE in cleaning grease from aluminum plates and honeycomb Find a suitable replacement for PERC in cleaning wax from a composite fiberglass honeycomb
Trial Number Date Run Purpose Success Rating
0 09/25/2023 To evaluate the effectiveness of multiple cleaners in removing both the grease and wax contaminants from aluminum coupons. Results successful using TACT (time, agitation, concentration, and temperature, as well as rinsing and drying) and/or other cleaning chemistries examined.
1 09/28/2023 To evaluate the effectiveness of multiple cleaners in removing both the grease and wax contaminants from aluminum coupons. Results successful using TACT (time, agitation, concentration, and temperature, as well as rinsing and drying) and/or other cleaning chemistries examined.
2 10/02/2023 To evaluate the effectiveness of multiple cleaners in removing both a grease soil from aluminum coupons and a wax soil from composite fiberglass coupons. Results successful using TACT (time, agitation, concentration, and temperature, as well as rinsing and drying) and/or other cleaning chemistries examined.
3 10/04/2023 To assess the efficacy of several solvents in removing glyconol wax soil from aluminum coupons (although the wax soil is only used on the composite fiberglass coupons, aluminum coupons were used in order to save the amount of fiberglass materials needed as well as to see the cleaning efficacy of the chemistries on the wax soil itself. If these solvents are successful, compatibility testing with the fiberglass composite will be the next step). Results successful using TACT (time, agitation, concentration, and temperature, as well as rinsing and drying) and/or other cleaning chemistries examined.
4 10/05/2023 Compatibility testing for previously identified effective solvents on the fiberglass composite material supplied by the client. Results successful using TACT (time, agitation, concentration, and temperature, as well as rinsing and drying) and/or other cleaning chemistries examined.
5 10/05/2023 To evaluate the effectiveness of the previously identified successful solvents utilizing methods other than ultrasonics. Results successful using TACT (time, agitation, concentration, and temperature, as well as rinsing and drying) and/or other cleaning chemistries examined.
6 10/11/2023 To evaluate the effectiveness of previously identified solvents in removing the royco grease soil from aluminum coupons. Results successful using TACT (time, agitation, concentration, and temperature, as well as rinsing and drying) and/or other cleaning chemistries examined.
7 11/16/2023 To evaluate the effectiveness of identified low flammability solvents in removing Royco 27A grease and Glyconol Wax. Results successful using TACT (time, agitation, concentration, and temperature, as well as rinsing and drying) and/or other cleaning chemistries examined.
