Trial Number 1

Trial Purpose:

To determine the odor longevity of laundry scent booster beads on cotton towels.

Date Run:

06/15/2026

Experiment Procedure:

Seven loads of laundry consisting of three cotton towels each were carried out using the each of the seven products to be tested.  Each load was washed using light load settings for 15 mins.  Because only the Lanher Scent Booster Beads had specified use instructions (15g of beads per light load with a laundry detergent of choice), these use instructions were followed for all seven products.  Unscented Seventh Generation Laundry Detergent was used in conjunction with the products so that there would be no interference with fragrance of laundry detergent.

After washing, the initial ratings of odor strength were taken before drying the towels in a drying machine until fully dry.  After the towels dried, they were then folded and stored in a drawer designated for each product tested.  The towels were kept in the drawers for 84 days with specific time points designated for rating fragrance.  The towels were observed daily for the first week, and once per each of the next consecutive three weeks.   At each time point, a panel of three individuals rated the towels on odor strength using the following rating scores:

Odor Ratings
0 none
1 slight fragrance
2 moderate fragrance
3 strong fragrance (matching the strength of odor of beads upon opening their packaging)

Conclusion:

The Chemtrax Lavender and Chemtrax Rose Scented Beads were able to match the performance of the Downy Unstoppables Scent Beads for the first 2 weeks, outperforming the remaining 4 products. By week three, the strength of the odor of the Chemtrax Lavender and Chemtrax Rose Scented Beads began to fade slightly, outlasted by the Downy Unstoppables.

By the end of the observation period, the strength of odor of the Chemtrax Lavender and Chemtrax Rose Scented Beads had been surpassed by the Downy Unstoppables Scented Beads and the Lanher Scented Beads.
