Trial Number 448

Trial Purpose:

Removing grinding fluid, rust preventative and cutting fluid from aluminum

Date Run:

06/03/2008

Experiment Procedure:

Basic cleaning performance testing was conducted using ASTM G122 as the bases for cleaning.

Products were selected based on the compatibility of substrate and removal of foreign substance. Full strength concentrations were used at room temperature. The coupons were immersed in a product for 30 seconds. Sets of coupons were coated with three contaminants: grinding fluid, rust preventative and cutting oil. Using a handheld swab and allowed to dry for 144 hours at room temperature. The contaminated coupons were weighed again to determine the amount of soil added. After cleaning process, the final weights were recorded, efficiencies were calculated and recorded.

Success Rating:

Preliminary compatibility tests on substrate coupons encouraging for at least one cleaning chemistry. More in-depth laboratory testing necessary.

Conclusion:

No product removed over 85% of any of the three contaminants.
