Project Number 1

Summary:

Through the use of OSEE, the lab compared the two cleaning processes for the client. Upon review, one system was determined to be slightly better than the other. Additional testing was performed on three cleaners for comparison purposes. After initial testing, a couple of aqueous cleaners were very effective in removing the buffing compound from the brass substrate through immersion cleaning. At a 10% dilution, four products were successful in removing most of the buffing compound.

Test Objective:

Optimize cleaning chemistry

Product Use:

Used in ultra high vacuum
Trial Number Date Run Purpose Success Rating
0 03/23/1999 Request to determine method for evaluating cleaned parts. Want to compare two cleaning methods. A cleanliness study, addressing only various analytical techniques.
1 04/12/1999 To evaluate several potential replacement cleaners and compare them to current cleaner. Results successful using TACT (time, agitation, concentration, and temperature, as well as rinsing and drying) and/or other cleaning chemistries examined.
2 04/21/1999 To determine the effectiveness of three cleaners at different concentrations. A follow up test, usually based on company input.
3 04/21/1999 To clean client supplied parts using the three cleaners from previous testing. A follow up test, usually based on company input.
4 04/28/1999 To determine the effectiveness of one cleaner requested by client at different concentrations. A follow up test, usually based on company input.
5 04/30/1999 To determine if the brown gunk contaminant would change the OSEE readings differently than the metal working fluid. A cleanliness study, addressing only various analytical techniques.
6 05/11/1999 To compare three cleaners effectiveness in cleaning samples using various cleaning times. A follow up test, usually based on company input.
