Summary: The lab found two possible cleaning solutions, Tsquare HTF 85 B and US Polychem 69 MC. Pilot scale testing of the 69 MC yielded inadequate dissolving of the coating. HTF 85 B was as effective as the NMP.

Test Objective: To determine optimum conditions and materials to clean stainless steel surfaces contaminated with polyurethane.

Problems with Current Method: N-pyrollidone will become a listed chemical. Costs

Purpose of Cleaning: The reactor must be cleaned of residual polymer solvents and compounding ingredients prior to the start of the next polymerization

Product Use: Simulation of chemical reactor walls and mixing blades. We propose to the use of small stainless steel parts to simulate reactor walls.

Cleaning Chemicals: N-methyl-2-pyrollidone
