Project Number 1

Summary:

In conjunction with ultrasonic energy four products (two aqueous and two semi-aqueous) were found effective in removing the flux. Vacuum drying was found to be the best drying option for the parts being cleaned.

Test Objective:

To find an alternative cleaner that will remove the flux residue from bellows assemblies (eliminate the need for TCE & Methylene Chloride).

Product Use:

This assembly will be used in a switch assembly in autoclaves
Trial Number Date Run Purpose Success Rating
0 10/29/1999 To identify cleaning alternative to replace TCE and methylene chloride. Cleaners should be usable in ultrasonic equipment. Results successful using TACT (time, agitation, concentration, and temperature, as well as rinsing and drying) and/or other cleaning chemistries examined.
1 11/02/1999 To further evaluate the two semi-aqueous cleaners from the previous trial. Results successful using TACT (time, agitation, concentration, and temperature, as well as rinsing and drying) and/or other cleaning chemistries examined.
2 11/03/1999 To further evaluate cleaners using ultrasonic energy in conjunction with effective cleaners. Results suggest a scale-up feasible match for cleaning chemistry and equipment. Pilot plant study with actual parts recommended.
3 11/05/1999 To evaluate cleaning of supplied parts using previously successful cleaning products. A follow up test, usually based on company input.
4 11/16/1999 To evaluate displacement drying as a way to remove the moisture from inside the parts after rinsing. A follow up test, usually based on company input.
5 11/17/1999 To evaluate vacuum drying as a way to remove the moisture from inside the parts after rinsing. Results suggest a scale-up feasible match for cleaning chemistry and equipment. Pilot plant study with actual parts recommended.
6 11/19/1999 To clean supplied parts using the proposed cleaning protocol. Results suggest a scale-up feasible match for cleaning chemistry and equipment. Pilot plant study with actual parts recommended.
